Heather qualified as a dental hygienist in 1982 in Glasgow and has worked as a practising hygienist in both NHS and private practice. She currently works one day a per week in a private practice. As a tutor dental hygienist she worked in Glasgow and in Cardiff Dental Hospitals. She has also been involved with the teaching of dental nurses.
Her research interests are in the field of infection control in general practice and she is co-author of several papers on that and related subjects.
Heather also has a BA (Hons) in English Literature and is currently the Editor of 'Dental Health' and 'DH Contact', the Society's online newsletter.

Alison Lowe

Ali Lowe qualified as a hygienist from Cardiff Dental School. Her early clinical career was spent in NHS & private practice as well as the Community Dental Service.
She enjoys teaching and has completed a Diploma in Education. Ali has won several awards including Hygienist of the Year in 2008.
She joined the Publications Committee of Dental Health in 2009.
Her working week is now divided between the Orthodontic Department of Cardiff Dental School, a specialist orthodontic practice and a private restorative practice.

Dr. Marina Harris

Marina graduated as a Dental Hygienist from the Royal Air Force Institute of Dental Health and Training and has vast experience within General Dental Practice and more recently in the field of dental education.
Alongside her practice and teaching career, Marina studied and gained a Bachelor of Science in Social Sciences, a Master of Laws in Legal Aspects of Medical Practice and the Post Graduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education.
Marina is a keen advocate for the use of Dental Care Professionals in the field of research and has had papers published in the journals Oral Health and Dental Management; the Annual Clinical Journal of Dental Health; Dental Health; and the British Dental Journal. Her current PhD research field is exploring stress and well-being in dental hygienists and therapists.
Marina has been an active member of BSDHT at regional and national level and has held the posts of Regional Group Treasurer, Honorary Treasurer, and President.

Elaine Tilling

Elaine qualified in the Royal Air Force in 1982. She has been an active member of BSDHT since that time serving as a Regional Officer, Military Representative to Council, the Elected Members' Representative to Council and as Council's representative to the Executive Committee of the BDHA (now BSDHT), from which she was additionally co-opted onto a guideline development group for the Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE). Elaine continues to teach and present on various subjects, speaking at many of the BSDHT Regional meetings.
She is currently the Education and Project Manager for TePe Oral Hygiene Products Ltd where she is involved with designing and implementing educational programmes for the dental profession.
Elaine has also served on the National Oral Health Promotion Group committee and is a Past President of the Institute of Health Promotion and Education.

Patricia qualified as a dental hygienist in 1978 at Cardiff Dental Hospital. During her career she has worked in private and NHS practices in the Cotswolds, Staffordshire and West Sussex. She graduated with BA (Hons) in Health Promotion (First Class Honours) in 2002 and BSc Open (Open) in 2018.
Past Secretary and Treasurer of BSDHT (formerly BDHA) South West and South Wales Regional Group. On a national level, Patricia became Elected Council Member for BDHA in 1992 and Honorary Secretary (1993-1998) - including being Press Officer for almost two years.
Patricia became a member of the BSDHT Publications Team in 2004 and has been Secretary of that committee since December 2007.
She was a member of the GDC's independent Fitness to Practise Panel from 2007-2018. Since April 2017 Patricia has been a Non-Executive Director on the Board of dg mutual and a member of its Nominations and Resources Committee. She is currently an exam invigilator at a school in Stratford-upon-Avon.
Patricia was the recipient of the prestigious Dr Leatherman Award at the Oral Health Conference in Harrogate in November 2017.

Simone Ruzario

Simone studied Medical Microbiology at the University of Surrey, thereafter, went to The Royal London, Queen Mary and Westfield and studied Dental Hygiene and Dental Therapy. Simone is in her final year of a distance Masters in Public Health at the University of Manchester.
Simone has a passion for science and that is why she endeavoured to utilise her microbiology following qualification as a dental hygienist.
Simone had the privilege of working as a research dental hygienist, which enhanced her knowledge of best practice and good clinical governance and enabled her to utilise both microbiology and dental skills.
Simone is highly enthusiastic and has been in the dental industry for over twenty years and qualified as a Dental Hygienist/Dental Therapist in 2004.
She is currently the chairperson for BSDHT Thames Valley Regional Group and a member of the publications committee.

Dr Stacey Clough has centred her career on provision of oral health care in the Community and Hospital Dental Services to vulnerable children and adults. She is currently working as a Consultant in Special Care Dentistry at Barts Health NHS Trust, where her main patient base is young people and adults with dental anxiety, behavioural or medical complexities which challenge the delivery of dental treatment. She uses a range of approaches to support patients such as behavioural strategies and conscious sedation. She has developed a diverse skill set in sedation including inhalational, intra-venous, intra-nasal and oral techniques to suit individual patients, when conventional approaches may not be possible. She is significantly experienced in the provision of dental treatment under general anaesthesia.
Originally graduated from the University of Leeds with distinction, she has since completed Diploma of Membership of the Joint Dental Faculties of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, followed by a Certificate of Completion of Specialty Training and Masters of Science in Special Care Dentistry with distinction.
Dr Stacey Clough has published articles in peer reviewed scientific journals to advance patient care across settings and dental education. She is significantly involved in teaching of the dental team at under-graduate and post-graduate levels, including the development and delivery of teaching in Sedation and Special Care Dentistry for those undertaking the Diploma in Dental Hygiene and Therapy through Queen Mary’s University London. She is Co-Founder of Sedation Education (SedEd), an accredited provider of training in conscious sedation to support the provision of dental treatment.

Ken Eaton studied at London University for his BDS, MSc (with distinction) and PhD. He has worked in all areas of dentistry and is listed by the GDC as a specialist in Periodontics and in Dental Public Health. He is currently a Visiting Professor at University College London and an Honorary Professor at the University of Kent.
His past Presidencies include those of the IADR Education Research and Practice-based Research Groups and the European Association of Dental Public Health. He was the first Chair of the Platform for Better Oral Health in Europe.
He is the Adviser to the Council of European Chief Dental Officers and has advised the World Health Organisation and the Health Departments of several European countries. He is currently a member of the Committee of the European Chapter of the Alliance for a CavityFree Future and Trust Dental Tutor for East Kent.
In the 1980s he was the Director of the Royal Air Force School of Dental Hygiene. In the 1990s he was a Vice-President of the then British Dental Hygienists Association and was the Scientific Adviser to the 2009 World Dental Hygienist Conference in Glasgow. He is the Chair of the British Dental Editors Forum and has edited a number of dental journals. He has published over 350 scientific works, most recently the book Practical Periodontics, with Phil Ower as co-editor.

Latha Davda is the Clinical Director at the University of Portsmouth Dental Academy, involved in training dental hygiene therapists, dental nurses and dentists. She is an Oral Surgeon and partner at a dental practice in Hampshire, practising general dentistry and oral surgery including implants. She is passionate about dental education for all dental professionals, and in addition to involvement with their undergraduate training, conducts CPD courses for all through the University and the Deanery. She is a visiting Professor at the Manipal College of Dental Surgery, India and has established short student exchange between Universities. Her research interests includes dental workforce migration and their integration, dental education and oral health in its global context. She has presented at national and international conferences and published papers on her research.
